At the start of 1861 there were two things on the mind of Wolcott Marsh, his lovely Anna
and the secessionists to the south. South Carolina had started the movement seceding from
the Union on December 20th, 1860 followed by Mississippi, Florida, Alabama,
Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas. Wolcott, a man of strong convictions, loved his Anna, and
loved the Union. First he married his beloved Anna, then two weeks later, on
April 17th, 1861 he took a stand and enlisted in Company A, First Connecticut
Volunteer Infantry.
Letters to a Civil War Bride are the Civil War Letters of Captain Wolcott Pascal Marsh to his
young bride Anna during the US Civil War; written on the battlefield they give detailed descriptions
of daily life in the Union Army, battle strategies, and much more.
